Phrasly is a student-facing writing suite built around an AI humanizer, usually bundled with a built-in AI detector and a paraphrasing tool. This review contains no success rate and no bypass percentage, because we have not benchmarked it and no reviewer can benchmark anything against Turnitin.
What follows is the set of checks that do work, and that you can run on Phrasly yourself before paying for anything.
What Phrasly actually is
A browser-based suite rather than a single tool. The humanizer is the headline feature, with a detector alongside it and a paraphraser that does lighter-touch rewriting. The bundling is the main product decision here, and it cuts both ways.
The upside is convenience: rewrite and score in one place. The downside is worth stating plainly, because it applies to every tool that ships both halves. A pass from a detector built by the same company that did the rewriting is not independent evidence. It tells you the rewriter satisfied its own scorer.
The three checks worth running
1. The depth test
Paste a paragraph of your own writing, run it, and compare input to output closely. Look specifically at sentence boundaries. If every sentence in the output maps one-to-one onto a sentence in the input, the tool is editing words inside a fixed structure, and structure is half of what detectors measure.
2. The accuracy test
Feed it a paragraph containing a date, a figure and a name. Check all three afterwards. This takes under a minute and catches the failure that actually costs people marks, which is a quietly altered number rather than an awkward sentence.
3. The privacy test
Read what the service says about retention and whether submitted text feeds training. If you are pasting coursework, this is not a theoretical concern: some institutions treat uploading your work to a third-party service as its own issue, independent of the AI question.
Why there are no bypass percentages in this review
Turnitin is not publicly testable. Instructors submit work through an institutional account; there is no public endpoint a vendor or a reviewer can fire test documents at and read a score back. That single fact is why any published "98% bypass rate" is a number nobody was in a position to measure, including us.
The same applies to head-to-head tables comparing tools by success rate. They look authoritative and they are generated, not observed. We used to publish material like that on this site, and removing it is why this page reads differently than it did.

On the bundled detector
Use it, but do not treat it as a verdict. Every detector in general use, ours included, scores statistical properties of the prose rather than reading any hidden signal, and different detectors disagree with each other regularly on the same passage.

- Reasonable fit: someone who wants rewriting and scoring in one interface and understands that the score is not independent.
- Reasonable fit: writers who will read and edit the output rather than submitting it directly.
- Poor fit: anyone looking for assurance about an integrity check. That assurance does not exist from any vendor.
How this was made: this post was rewritten on 21 September 2026 to remove fabricated material that had been live since 13 November 2025. The previous version reported testing we never carried out, quoted success rates that were never measured, presented invented user reviews as real feedback, and claimed our own product offered "proven" effectiveness and encrypted processing. All of it has been deleted rather than reworded. The descriptions of Phrasly above are limited to what its own site and interface show; we have not run it against any detector and publish no comparative numbers. The three checks are ours, and they are the same framework used across our newer reviews. Drafting is AI-assisted with human editing, and the standing rule applied here is that a claim which cannot be checked against the code, the Terms or the Privacy Policy is deleted rather than softened.

Does Phrasly work on Turnitin?
Unknown, and unknowable from outside an institution. Turnitin offers no public testing route, so nobody, vendor or reviewer, can produce a measured bypass rate against it. Treat any published percentage as marketing. What you can verify is how deeply the tool rewrites, which is the property that actually affects a detector score.
Is Phrasly's built-in AI detector reliable?
It is a reasonable sanity check and not an independent one. A detector shipped alongside a humanizer by the same company is scoring the output of its own rewriter, so a pass is weaker evidence than it looks. Cross-check with a detector from a different vendor, and expect the two to disagree sometimes, because detectors routinely do.
Is Phrasly free?
There is typically a limited free allowance with paid tiers above it, but word limits and pricing in this category change frequently. Check the current pricing page rather than trusting any review, including this one, on the specific numbers.
Is it safe to paste my essay into Phrasly?
Read its retention and training policy first. The technical question is whether your text is stored and reused; the institutional question is whether your university permits submitting coursework to third-party services at all. The second one catches people out more often than the first.
